And therein lies the point.įrom every reading i had, all the Italics people, not only the Romans never used archers in battle and favoured the javelin and melee weapons, besides their bows and arrows were so primitive that they wouldn't penetrate any armour even at close range and have limited range, it was essentially a hunting weapon in that part of europe You're right to say they didn't utilise them as much as other nations (certainly early in their development as they only faced other Roman factions who employed similar tactics) but they did still have them. The Roman factions at the time did have archers. I've heard this argument advanced numerous times and it's just not true. There are far more real issues to complain about. Can i please get a following on this? -Regards Put official roman archers into the game in the next patch. It is a game after all, the more history you try to put in and the more you streamline it, the less fun i have. I had good looking ROMAN archers in ROME 1, and now i have none in ROME 2, 10 years later? Pathetic. I DO NOT CARE about historical accuracy in the least bit if its going to sacrifice my enjoyment of this GAME, and neither does any other avid total war player who plays it for the visceral gameplay experience. Whether Roman legions utilized archers a signifcant amount in history or not, archers are a key part of a total war army and a key part of gameplay and battle mechanics, in addition to adding alot of aesthetic value and a cosmetic look to an army, rounding it out and making it feel complete.
